This position conducts extensive audits of randomly selected Unemployment Insurance (UI) claims to determine the appropriateness and accuracy of payments made on the basis of Arizona law and policy resulting in a realistic quality control system.


-          Contact claimant to schedule interview, drive to appointed location, and have the claimant complete questionnaire

-          Clarify any questionable items and conduct an in-depth interview

-          Audit UI records, write formal report, and review procedures, laws, and federal regulations to ensure compliance

-          Make recommendations for improvement, and issue findings to affected personnel

-          Meet with potential employees identified in the claimants questionnaire and very if contacts are acceptable

-          Contact employers to audit claimant payroll records, review personnel files, and obtained signed documentation of any discrepancies

-          Review and copy the claimant record and any other agency records needed for the audit, and complete data entry into the Department of Labor Sun System,


Knowledge of:

-          Adjudication process including 2 years of issuing non-monetary determinations

-          Unemployment Insurance policy and procedures

-          Benefits Payment Control, Employment Service and UI tax procedures

-          Accounting procedures and various computer programs

Skill in:

-          Organization and time management, multitasking on a daily basis, and maintaining flexibility in prioritizing tasks/assignments

-          Investigative procedures, methodology, report writing, case management, and interviewing techniques

-          Providing technical assistance to staff after training

Ability to:

-          Adapt quickly to new procedures and processes

-          Utilize verbal and written communication to explain and interpret federal and state laws applicable to UI claims

-          Conduct comprehensive and unbiased interviews of all parties in a claim and, establish and maintain effective working relationships

-          Perform quality control reviews of case files and access, maintain, review and interpret database information


-          Two years’ experience as a UI adjudication deputy, previous UI law experience; Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral or Social Science, Psychology, Business Administration or closely related field; Bilingual in English/Spanish


-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees

-          Successfully pass background and reference checks. Employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions

-          Have a current, valid state issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employee is subject to driver’s license record checks and must maintain an acceptable driving record, valid motor vehicle insurance and registration, and must complete any required training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).
