Responsibilities

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Building Maintenance Specialist for the Arizona Training Program at Coolidge (ATPC). The Building Maintenance Specialist performs varied building maintenance tasks requiring the application of skilled abilities in the maintenance and repair of utility service systems and the planning, oversight, and execution of initial-through-completion stages of remodeling and construction.  This position is authorized to inspect and determine the need for repairs or remodeling and perform skilled duties in the installation, maintenance, remodel and repair of State facilities to include construction and repair of building frameworks and structures such as stairways, door frames, partitions, installation of cabinets, siding and drywall, and painting of interior and exterior of buildings.  The Building Maintenance Specialist performs lock work and other building repairs to ensure a safe and functioning physical plant in compliance with applicable regulations, building codes and procedures.  This position maintains a work shop and equipment and accomplishes tasks in a timely and efficient manner.   

 

Qualifications

-          The candidate will have knowledge of Federal, State and local laws and rules, and local building codes; structural components of buildings and related utility service systems; preventive maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction methods and practices; reading basic blue prints, schematics and sketches; equipment to complete assigned repair and maintenance required; and common safety practices;.

 

-          The candidate will have skill in analyzing and determining proper use, maintenance, and security of tools, equipment and materials; interpreting, applying, and adhering to Federal, State and local laws and rules, and local building codes; applying and demonstrating generalized preventive maintenance, repair, remodeling, construction methods and practices; reading and interpreting basic blueprints, schematics, and sketches; installing and replacing major utility services; estimating cost and ordering materials; troubleshooting problems; applying and demonstrating work leadership and training; and oral and written communications.

 

-          The candidate will have ability to work independently and as part of a team; work under adverse conditions; stand or walk for long periods of time; climb ladders; prepare clear and concise records, reports, and other written materials; construct items from various materials; use various tools in the completion of work; analyze problems, identify solutions, and complete appropriate repairs; exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines; and communicate with others in a positive manner.

 

-          Minimum two years’ experience performing general building maintenance work, preferably in various building maintenance fields, or four years’ experience in a commercial setting.  Experience in carpentry is highly desirable.
