The Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is the senior-level executive within an organization responsible for establishing and maintaining the enterprise’s strategy and programs to ensure information assets are adequately protected.  The CISO directs staff in identifying, developing and implementing, and maintaining processes across the organization to reduce information and information technology risk, respond to incidents, establish appropriate standards and controls, and direct the establishment and implementation of policies and procedures.


-          Develop, maintain and provide strategic leadership to the agency-wide IT security program by maintaining awareness of the criticality of information security initiatives among users, system owners, and senior management

-          Provide Info Sec related metrics proposing budget and other resource requirements for information protection

-          Develop, maintain and oversees policies, processes and control techniques to address all applicable information security requirements and standards by establishing programs, educating stakeholders, monitoring progress on security initiatives

-          Detect report, contain and mitigate incidents that impair adequate date and infrastructure security by establishing incident response plan

-          Coordinate the risk management and system acceptance process among program system owners by teaching the risk management process, providing current and accurate threat information, proposing appropriate safeguards and controls selection

-          Manage the security audit support, security engineer and security access teams to support security programs for the agency by selecting, training, and managing the three security teams, providing technical oversight, overall project management



Knowledge of:

-          Broad and generally deep understanding of all facets of management and leadership, as well as a vision for the specific business program/function being managed

-          Most infrastructure technologies and in-house developed applications utilized in the enterprise

-          Organization’s methodologies and tools

-          Organization’s policies and procedures

Ability to:

-          Apply creative solutions to business problems to ensure business needs are most effectively met

-          Effectively articulate the relationship of the department to other business units in the organization

-          Understand and anticipate needs and priorities of both internal and external customers

-          Integrate new concepts, practices, and emerging technologies into strategic planning process


-          Bachelor’s degree plus 8 or more years of related experience plus 3 or more years of management experience (or equivalent experience)

      Public Sector Experienced desired. AZ State experience preferred.      


-     Have a current, valid state issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.    Employee is subject to driver’s license record checks and must maintain an acceptable driving record, valid motor vehicle insurance and registration, and must complete any required training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

-     Apply for and show proof of receipt of a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card that meets Level One requirements

-     Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees

-     Successfully pass background and reference checks. Employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions
