The Division of Technology Services (DTS) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our Telecommunications team to oversee all network and telecommunications cable management in all DES MDF-IDF rooms state-wide. This position will maintain switch port utilization to facilitate capacity planning and network expansion, as well as reduce security risks by identifying unused switch ports. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:


- Manages small to medium sized projects. Audits MDF-IDF locations regularly for adherence to cable management standards, maintains port utilization schematics to identify used and unused switch ports. Activates/deactivates switch ports and installation and removal of associated patch cabling

- Leads planning and/or implementation of projects. Manages switch port utilization to ensure optimal port usage. Provides port capacity information to Network Infrastructure staff as part of the project planning process. Manages switch port inventory for capacity planning and network expansion

- Manages projects based on repeatable standards and practices where possible, but also may require defining new approaches

- Participates in the design and/or testing phases. Participates in the configuration and capacity planning for data switches installed at new DES or remodeled locations and office consolidations

- Facilitates the definition of project missions, goals, tasks, and resource requirements. Resolves or assists in the resolution of conflicts within and between projects or functional areas. Monitors project or area progress and escalates as appropriate

- Manages project budget and resource allocation. Coordinates the definition of service levels and customer requirements

- Works cross-functionally to solve problems and implement changes. Works directly with the office of Facilities Management to identify and resolve MDF-IDF environmental (HVAC) and security (room access) issues. Proactively and routinely identifies, mitigates and reports project risks. Other duties as assigned and related to position

- Proficiency with Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)

- Develop and write technical documentation

- Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management



- Bachelor’s degree plus 3 or more years of experience in project coordination and management (or equivalent experience)

- Project Management Certification

- Certified Associates in Project Management (CAPM) preferred
