The Division of Developmental Disabilities’ (DDD) Cook 2 is responsible for preparing and cooking meals and snacks for members in compliance with the prescribed and approved dietary menu.  In order to meet the various needs of each member, the Cook 2 must be knowledgeable and have skills to prepare various types of textures and diets.  The Cook 2 is responsible for ensuring that all dietary and sanitary regulations are followed at all times.  The Cook 2 is also responsible for the food shopping for the facility.


-          Preparing food using both mechanical/electrical kitchen equipment and hand tools in a safe and sanitary manner

-          Ensuring that all food is prepared in accordance with each specific diet

-          Maintaining a clean and sanitary work area, and cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment

-          Developing shopping lists

-          Measuring correct portions of all food items into containers in compliance with each person’s specialized diet, and providing input to the nutritionist specific to the special dietary needs of the facility

-          Maintaining updated food and supply inventories



Knowledge of:

-          Menus and recipes

-          Sanitation practices in a food establishment

-          Special therapeutic diets

-          Policies and procedures utilized in Food Services

Skill in:

-          The use of cleaning tools and chemicals in a safe manner

-          Writing/completing designated forms and inventories

-          Use and maintenance of kitchen hand tools (knives, can openers, etc.) and mechanical/electric equipment (stoves, ovens, mixers, food processors, etc.)

-          Preparing nutritious and palatable food

Ability to:

-          Prepare and present food in an attractive manner.

-          Maintain positive working relationships with the members and staff at the facility

-          Learn and apply federal regulations for Intermediate Care Facilities (ICFs)

-          Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing


-          The ideal/preferred candidate will have experience with food preparation.

-          Valid Professional License
