Division of Developmental Disabilities

The Cook 2 is responsible for preparing and cooking meals and snacks for individuals with developmental disabilities. This individual also shops for food for the facility and maintains sanitary regulations.


-        Prepare food in accordance with the specific diet of each member

-        Maintain food and supply inventory

-        Ensure proper food storage

-        Develop shopping lists based on approved menus and complete grocery shopping

-        Maintain a clean, sanitary work area

-        Measure correct food portions for each member

-        Present basic in-services for facility staff on food preparation, sanitation, and dietary practices



Knowledge of:

-        Menus and recipes, especially those appropriate for special therapeutic diets

-        Cooking techniques used to preserve natural nutrients and palatability

-        Basic mathematics, including calculations to convert recipe ingredients to appropriate sizes

-        Sanitation practices in a food establishment

-        Preparing meals in a large group setting

Skill in:

-        Preparing nutritional and palatable food

-        Safe use of cleaning tools and chemicals

-        Writing and completing designated forms and inventories

Ability to:

-        Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing

-        Maintain positive working relationships with members and staff

-        Learn and apply federal regulations for Intermediate Care Facilities (ICFs)


-        Candidates will be required to possess a current, valid food handler’s permit at time of appointment.


-        Have a current, valid state issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employee is subject to driver’s license record checks and must maintain an acceptable driving record, valid motor vehicle insurance and registration, and must complete any required training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

-        Apply for and show proof of receipt of a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card that meets Level One requirements

-        Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees

-        Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459  

-        Successfully pass background checks, reference checks, and a post-offer medical/physical examination. Employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions
