JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the position is to support and maintain in-house computer systems, desktops, and peripherals. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal workstation performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training and assistance where required.  Coordinate, direct and work with program division heads to effectively and efficiently manage the operation and modification of Desktop and Mobile Devices.  Responsible for basic PC hardware and software, troubleshooting, problem solving, network connectivity, distribution of hardware and software upgrades; service packs; virus detection and elimination; application of all security patches; setup and configuration of PCs to the network.

 

The Desktop and LAN Support Team provides services to all DES offices statewide.  Statewide responsibility include travel, overtime and overnight stays may be required.   

JOB DUTIES: 

-          Install and deploy new or re-purposed PC hardware and peripherals agency wide with accuracy and in a timely fashion. Work on multiple assigned service requests simultaneously while managing priorities and work load.

-          Maintains user’s computer equipment to ensure it has the latest patches and antivirus software in a timely manner.  Install, configure, maintain and asset management tracking systems.  Install security patches, service packs, update OS and applications with latest software versions. 

-          Process and complete service requests that pertain to troubleshooting DES computers, devices and peripherals throughout the state.  Work within RMA guidelines to make corrective actions within established intervals.

-          Evaluate new hardware and software products on test environments before distributing or recommending changes in agency automation standards.  Test deployment packages within controlled settings prior to general release or availability.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

-          Principles, capabilities, and operation of networked devices such as servers, PC’s, network and communications devices such as workstations and network interface cards.

-          Possess the knowledge of desktop management and monitoring of application management, physical and software security solutions, virus protection, software distribution, and general version control. 

-          Knowledge of Current and Supported Operating Systems and Applications, including but not limited to Windows 7, Windows 8, and 10, Windows RT, MS Office Professional and network protocols TCP/IP.  Also must possess a working knowledge of Virtual Machines and Virtual Computing.

Skill in:

-          Must possess the skill set necessary to understand the complicated integration of hardware and software components to effectively analyze, evaluate and draw logical conclusions and solve complex PC related problems.

-          Have effective interpersonal and communication skills, and be capable of planning, organizing and coordinating complex technical activities. 

Ability to:

-          Ability to analyze system hardware and software problems and provide information to resolve the problem; ability to understand the inter-workings of personal computer hardware and software.

-          Communicate with technical and non-technical staff; ability to continually learn an ever-changing environment.

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S):

-          Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or closely related field and 4 (four) years’ experience providing diagnostic and trouble-shooting support in a client desktop, cross platform environment, OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills.  Desired: A+ Certification, Microsoft Certified Professional

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees

-          Apply for and show proof of receipt of a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card that meets Level One requirements
