JOB SUMMARY:

If so, the Direct Care Professional position with the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) may be right for you!

We are seeking caring, enthusiastic Direct Care Professionals for our members who have moderate to severe developmental disabilities (e.g., autism, intellectual disability, or epilepsy).

JOB DUTIES: 

   -  Provide personal care for members with developmental disabilities (e.g., bathing, toileting, dressing, personal hygiene)

   -  Drive a transport vehicle and assist members with safety requirements, including safety and stability of wheelchairs

   -  Complete incident reports and respond to emergency situations

   -  Encourage members with developmental disabilities to engage in recreational activities available at home or in the community

   -  Communicate (in writing and verbally) and follow directions

   -  Implement Individual Support Plans (ISP) programs and strategies; collect and record data

   -  Administer, order, and store medications of members according to doctors’ orders

    -  Prepare, cook, set up, and serve meals to members; encourage member participation during meals to ensure nutritional requirements are met

    -  Complete general housekeeping duties

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

-          Providing personal care

-          Human rights

-          Cleaning and basic housekeeping

-          Basic cooking

 

 

Skill in:

       -   Participating in and implementing Individual Support Plans (ISP)

       -   Planning activities designed to meet specific needs of individual members

       -   Advocating for members

 

Ability to:

        -    Display compassion and respect members’ rights

        -   Learn and apply behavior support techniques and proper lifting techniques

        -   Learn and use nutritional principles and mealtime techniques      

        -  Use a computer

        -  Attend staff trainings

        -  Read and write English

        -  Ability to lift / carry, push / pull 50 lbs. or more

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S):

  -  Applicant must be 18 years of age to apply and read and write English Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, overtime and change work locations, when necessary. Ability to lift, push, pull 50 pounds or more.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

   -  In-state travel may be required.  This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.  Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).  Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.

   -  Employees shall have a valid Level One fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statue 41-2758.07 in order to work with children and vulnerable adults.

   -  Candidates for this position shall be subject to search of both Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant A.R.S. 46-459.

   -  Employment is contingent upon the ability to lift 50 pounds or more and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
