Responsibilities

The Division of Benefits and Medical Eligibility (DBME) is seeking an experienced and highly motived individual to join our team as an Eligibility Interviewer. The Eligibility Interviewer position is responsible for providing quality customer service while interviewing and gathering pertinent information to complete the benefit determination process for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Nutrition Assistance (NA - formerly known as Food Stamps) and the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) Medical Assistance (MA). Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Interpret federal, state and agency statues, rules and regulations; explain information such as eligibility requirements.

- Heavy use of computer software and systems along with data entry and retrieval of programmatic and customer information.

- Resolving customer concerns; working in a high volume and fast paced local office.

- Writing and reading comprehension.

- Diffusing difficult client situations.

- Accessing resources to refer clients.

 

Qualifications

- Knowledge of interviewing techniques and customer service techniques.

- Knowledge of internet and email use, task management and MS Office software, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

- Application of mathematical computations to determine public assistance eligibility.

- Solid keyboarding skills.

- Ability to learn basic federal, state and agency statues, rules and regulations applicable to the public assistance programs.

- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external clients, including other state agencies and community resources.

- Positive professional manner.

- High school diploma or GED (required).

- Two years of public contact or customer service work experience which includes 1 year of interviewing, evaluating and determining customer eligibility (preferred). Sixty semester hours applicable towards an Associates or Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in behavioral or social science, psychology, business administration or a closely related field may substitute for 1 year of the work experience

- Have a current, valid Arizona state issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employee is subject to driver’s license record checks and must maintain an acceptable driving record, valid motor vehicle insurance and registration, and must complete any required training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

-Travel may be required for training and meetings, which may require an overnight stay
