JOB SUMMARY:

The Employment Counselor 3 will provide employment services for difficult and complex cases. The position works in a correctional facility providing one-on-one, group instruction, and case management services to incarcerated individuals in [email protected] Employment Centers.

JOB DUTIES: 

-          Assist clients with Arizona Job Connection registration, job readiness, resume development, job referrals and development, self-help and social skills, using computers, and accessing online training modules.

-          Facilitate a structured 8 week employment program to incarcerated individuals in [email protected] Employment Centers in Department of Corrections facilities.

-          Provide case management services in difficult and complex cases that involve criminal convictions backgrounds and other barriers

-          Coordinate and schedule events and initiatives to increase success of client to obtain and retain employment, such as mock interviews and job fairs

-          Maintain accurate records and reports including employment retention follow-up, case notes, and client progress, and ensure all activity is consistently updated in database

-          Maintain awareness of physical and emotional changes in clients and report concerns to manager and Department of Corrections personnel

-          Adapt materials and equipment to meet specific needs and learning styles of the population

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

-          Available community resources and services and labor market information

-          General information regarding career opportunities and related necessary skills, challenges, behaviors, and needs of at-risk populations

-          Basic research techniques

Skill in:

-          Oral and written communication with diverse populations

-          Following and giving clear directions, working independently, decision making, and working in a team environment

-          Working without immediate supervision in direct one-on-one and small group instruction, and adapting to constantly changing circumstances and interruptions

-          Accepting, understanding, and relating to clients who have behavioral, emotional, learning or physical disabilities

-          Microsoft Office Excel and Word

Ability to:

-          Follow instructions with minimum direction, learn new things, and conduct assessment testing

-          Respond quickly in emergency situations and be trained in and utilize safety/security and behavior management procedures

-          Maintain strict adherence to Department of Corrections and Department of Economic Security policy and procedures

-          Create and maintain an environment that reinforces appropriate behavior modifications and positive morale

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S):

-          Any combination of training and experience which demonstrates ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described; a typical qualifying background would include coursework in Social Sciences, Psychology, Criminal Justice or related field; Previous experience instructing/facilitating groups of adults, and/or working with high-risk adults

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

-          Have a current, valid state issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employee is subject to driver’s license record checks and must maintain an acceptable driving record, valid motor vehicle insurance and registration, and must complete any required training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

-          Apply for and show proof of receipt of a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card that meets Level One requirements

-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees

-          Successfully pass background and reference checks. Employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
