Financial Exploitation Investigator

Division of Aging & Adult Services

Maricopa County

Phoenix, AZ 85007


The Division of Aging & Adult Services is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Financial Exploitation Investigator.

The position is responsible for conducting data analysis and financial investigations into complex cases of fraud and financial exploitation perpetrated against vulnerable adults.


-          Interviews victims, alleged perpetrators and witnesses to gather evidence

-          Requests records and subpoenas from local and national financial institutions and analyzes the financial documents gathered

-          Meets with local law enforcement and prosecutors to coordinate the investigation process

-          Prepares detailed reports covering all aspects of financial data and submits to the unit manager for review and approval

-          Testifies in court and composes correspondence using discretion and sound judgement

-          Confers with staff regarding joint action to be taken

-          Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment



Knowledge of:

-          Financial investigation techniques and methods

-          State laws governing the investigation of financial exploitation

-          Accounting principles, practices and procedures

-          Administrative hearing process and auditing financial records

-          General banking procedures and the different forms of financial exploitation

Skill in:

-          Verbal and written communication

-          Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships

-          Interviewing to extract pertinent information

-          Organization and time management.

-          Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to:

-          Make appropriate decisions in high stress situations and exercise proper judgement and behavior

-          Deescalate volatile situations

-          Prepare documents for court or administrative hearings


-          Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field from an accredited college or university



-          Apply for and show proof of a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card that meets Level One requirements

-          Driving is required. Individuals may be required to use their personal motor vehicle. A current, valid state issues driver’s license; employee is subject to driver’s license record checks and must maintain and acceptable driving record, valid motor vehicle insurance and registration and must complete any required training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12)

-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired state employees

-          Be subject to a search of Child Protective Services Central Registry and the Adult Protective Services Registry

-          Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions
