The Division of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS), Adult Protective Services (APS), is seeking an individual to perform a variety of case-related activities involved in providing assistance to vulnerable, elderly, and incapacitated adults. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Investigate and provide assessment, evaluation, and services to vulnerable adults 18 and older who are alleged to be abused, neglected, or exploited and make determination if protective and/or social services need to be provided

- Contact clients in a timely manner and interview those who may have knowledge of the client’s circumstances

- Write comprehensive progress notes, case plans, risk assessments, and closure summaries, and maintain accurate and timely case files

- Research, obtain, and analyze complex financial and medical documents including psychological evaluations as appropriate

- File petitions for Guardian or Conservator as necessary and provide testimony for case related court appearances

- Facilitate in-home services and assist with out-of-home placements. Collaborate with clients, providers, and community resources to deliver appropriate assistance

- Meet with supervisor monthly at a minimum, to ensure compliance and needs of clients are being met, attend meetings and trainings, and travel within assigned District as required


- Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations and polices related to APS

- Knowledge of risk assessment for elder mistreatment, human behavior, abusive adults, medical illnesses, psychological abuse, substance abuse and domestic violence

- Knowledge of judicial system relating to appointment of guardian/conservator, and APS statutes, cue questioning, and determining vulnerability and incapacity

- Skill in interviewing, oral and written communication, and good phone communication skills

- Skill in assessment of vulnerable and frail elderly, and organization and time management

- Ability to effectively communicate and extract pertinent information, and write clear, concise, reports that reflect the alleged abuse, neglect and/or exploitation

- Ability to apply confidentiality statues, policies and procedures, use a variety of computer software packages and set priorities and delegate work assignments

- Travel is required for visits in the field, and may be extensive. Travel to Phoenix for New Investigator Training also required

- Bachelor’s degree in Social work, Rehabilitation, Counseling, Educational Sociology, Psychology or closely related field highly desirable

- Bilingual highly desirable
