The Office of Professional Development (OPD) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Instructional Design Supervisor to join its enterprise learning and development administration, the Office of Professional Development. DES is the State of Arizona’s social services agency, employing more than 7,500 employees who serve 2.2 million Arizonans in need. This position provides an opportunity to use professional learning and development skills to influence success in a large organization and at the same time engage in public service. The two together make DES OPD an outstanding place to work. This position directs a course development team in the design and development of DES courses. The Instructional Design Supervisor leads continuous improvement efforts to ensure quality standards are met and best practices are followed. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

-    Managing a team of instructional designers in day-to-day course development tasks;

-       Managing instructional design projects to completion, ensuring project milestones and quality standards are met.

-       Consulting with leadership, customers, and subject matter experts in order to design programs that meet customer needs.

-       Working collaboratively with other teams (i.e., subject matter experts, graphic design, video, continuous improvement) to further design projects.

-       Providing input to OPD strategic plan, policies and procedures, and budget.



- Knowledge of instructional systems design (ADDIE preferred), evaluation (Phillips ROI methodology preferred), and principles, practices and tools of distance learning (computer based training, web conference software, etc.).

- Knowledge of adult learning theory.

- Hands on experience with project management or as a leader of people, including - performance management, monitoring timelines, overseeing quality and budgets.

- Solid oral and written communication skills; customer service orientation.

- Knowledge of distance learning software packages.

- Strong understanding of content and media development techniques and processes in delivering content via the web.

- Intermediate skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet Explorer.



-Selection preference: Bachelor’s degree or higher in an applicable subject area, such as Instructional System Design, e-Learning, English, Psychology (or similar field) and 3 years of experience in the field of training and development.
