The Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Mental Health Program Specialist 2. This position provides specialized care, treatment, technical support, behavioral intervention and security for individuals with developmental disabilities residing in a transitional group home, because they are being transitioned from an in-patient psychiatric setting to long term community placement. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Teaching transitional living skills (personal hygiene, home maintenance, utilization of public transportation, etc.)

- Providing direct personal care and assistance with daily living skills as needed, and monitoring assessment of clients' behaviors and reports potential problems

- Responding to emergency situations including behavioral/psychiatric and medical emergencies

- Participating in establishing and maintaining a safe, orderly and therapeutic living environment for individuals with developmental disabilities and psychiatric/behavioral issues

- Participating in developing and writing goals, objectives and strategies, inclusive of the behavior plan


Minimum Requirements

- Requires the ability to pass a post-offer medical/physical examination

- Possess an active and valid driver’s license with 5 or fewer points on driving record



- Knowledge mental health principles and techniques involved in treatment

- Knowledge of procedures and techniques used in developing Individual Treatment Plans for clients

- Applying behavior-building and remotivation techniques skills

- Skills teaching and learning principles and recognizing client disorientation, aggressiveness and combative behavior

- Effective oral/written communications and interactions with staff, clients and their families

- Ability to provide specialized care, treatment and behavioral intervention and security for individuals with developmental disabilities and psychiatric/behavioral issues


Preferred Qualifications

- The Candidate must possess 1 yr. of exp. as Mental Health Program Specialist 1; OR 2 yrs. of exp. in care & treatment of individuals w/an intellectual and/or developmental disability; OR Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling w/an emphasis in clinical work or rehabilitation substitutes for the required exp.; OR Bachelor's degree in above fields and emphasis substitutes for 1 yr. of required exp.

- Willing to work weekends, holidays and overtime when necessary.
