The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Physical Therapist.  This position will promote a model of excellence in the delivery of physical therapy and education; follows all applicable federal and state regulations, policies and procedures; and maintains active and current knowledge of the generally acceptable professional standards of Physical Therapy practice.


-          Provide direct Physical Therapy services to members (primarily adult) with developmental disabilities who live in Intermediate Care Facilities and state operated group home settings.

-          Review clinical records regarding diagnosis, history, and prior physical therapy interventions to the member

-          Prevent injury, impairment, functional limitation, and disability; promotion and maintenance of health, wellness, fitness, and quality of life

-          Provide direct therapy related to the member’s Individual Support Plan goals and objectives

-          Plan, prepare, and establish appropriate goals and objectives based on a comprehensive assessment

-          Conduct comprehensive evaluations and provides a written plan for daily intervention by direct care staff



Knowledge of:

-          Principles and techniques of Physical Therapy

-          Basic pathology and neurology of congenital diseases, disabling conditions, and injuries relative to the objective of Physical Therapy

-          Growth and development of the adult through geriatric population

-          Use, care, and maintenance of orthopedic and therapeutic appliances and equipment

Skill in:

-          Problem solving

-          Decision making

-          Effective oral and written communication

-          Project initiation

-          Use of general office machines and computer technology including electronic medical records, word processing, spreadsheet, data base applications, email, and etc

Ability to:

-          Establish professional relationships and work cooperatively with other

-          Work independently with minimal supervision

-          Multi-task, prioritize, and manage workload

-          Provide information regarding member’s needs effectively


-          Candidate must be a graduate in a Master’s or Doctorate Level Physical Therapy Program. 

-          Candidate will have at least one year experience working with adults who have Developmental Disabilities.


-          Candidate must be a Physical Therapist licensed by the Arizona Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or have the ability to secure an Arizona Physical Therapy license within six (6) months from hire date

-          Employment contingent upon completion of a post-offer medical/physical examination and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions

-          Employee shall have a valid level one fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute (A.R.S.) 41-2758.07 in order to work with children and vulnerable adults

-          Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459

-          Have a current, valid state issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.  Employee is subject to driver’s license record checks and must maintain an acceptable driving record, valid motor vehicle insurance and registration, and must complete any required training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12)

-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees

-          Successfully pass background and reference checks.  Employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions
