The Registration Unit Supervisor will provide planning, training and supervision sufficient enabling the unit to operate with optimal efficiency. Responsible for reviewing documents submitted by employers, CPA’s, attorneys, employer representatives and other sources. Will have the authority to instruct the various units to apply or refund monies to an employer’s account. Determine an employer’s tax liability, determine whether the renumerations are wages and tax liability of the employer. Will evaluate performance of employees, conduct staff meetings, approve or deny leave, recommend hire and dismiss personnel, give recognition and take disciplinary action when needed.


-          Supervise and evaluate the daily activities of staff.

-          Analyze applications received by the employer, their representative or Department of Revenue.

-          Perform investigations to obtain information necessary to issue an unbiased appeal-able determine of tax indebtedness including successorship based on the UI law and regulations.

-          Provide information to employers regarding employment and wages which has financial impact on the employer and the State of Arizona.

-          Recommend disciplinary personnel actions, hire and train staff, authorize payroll, time sheets, travel vouchers, leave and training requests and conduct performance evaluations.

-          Prepares reports, develops action plans to correct deficiencies, and maintain relationships with community resources to coordinate program services.




-          Considerable knowledge of UI law, rules and regulations, policies, procedures, federal criteria, general business law and principles.

-          Knowledge of procedures of determining coverage, successorship, exempt status, reporting requirements and the UI program.

-          Have through knowledge of supervising procedures, personnel rules and policies, Departmental and Unit criteria.

-          Be able to effectively communicate verbally or in writing, conduct fact-finding interviews with irate, hostile or irrational employers to prepare investigative reports of fact.

-          Ability to analyze information to arrive at a decision.

-          Successfully interpret law and regulations to issue an unbiased appeal.



-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees

-          Successfully pass background and reference checks. Employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions




-          Knowledge of Unemployment Insurance Program

-          Supervisory experience

-          Prior experience in the legal field

-          Experience as a Program Services Evaluator 3 for more than one year
