The Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services (DERS) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Rehabilitation Services Specialist 3. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Performs outreach activities, interviews consumers for services, describes vocational rehabilitation programs and informs consumers of rights and responsibilities

- Collects and analyzes data to determine program and services eligibility, functional limitations, priority status and to identify appropriate disability related services

- Facilitates problem solving and decision making processes in partnership with consumers which results in development of an Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE) as well as future amendments as may be required

- Provides orientation and adjustment to disability counseling to give knowledge and understanding of individual disability issues and barriers to independent living and/or employment; provides vocational counseling and guidance, facilitates interest inventories, career exploration, and labor market exploration

- Sole responsibility for case management and caseload management activities including compliance with case documentation requirements, authorizing consumer services, monitoring rehabilitation progress and managing fiscal resources

- Serves as program representative for a specific geographic locale or as a liaison and disability specialist for a specific disability group

- Travels to meetings of community organizations, inter/intra agency task forces or ad-hoc groups, and may provide leadership training and technical assistance; participates with public and private agencies, institutions, and community groups to achieve outcomes



- Knowledge of federal and state laws, statutes, rules, regulations, and personnel policies pertaining to the provision of vocational rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities

- Knowledge of services related to transitioning from school to competitive employment

- Knowledge of needs of persons with disabilities including physical, cognitive, sensory and psychiatric

- Knowledge of job preparation and readiness skills

- Skill in interviewing and eliciting information, and counseling individuals with disabilities

- Provide information to customers, providers, community organizations and agencies resources in the community for the alleviation of health, educational and financial needs

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; analyze and interpret medical and psychological reports

- Must have a Master’s Degree with major Rehabilitation Counseling; or Master’s Degree in related field; or Master’s Degree in a non-related field plus one year of Human Service Experience; or Bachelor’s Degree in related field plus two years of Human Service Experience; or Bachelor’s Degree in a non-related field plus three years of Human Service Experience.

- Must meet eligibility standards for Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) established by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) within 6 years of employment as a Rehabilitation Services Specialist
