The incumbent will support the implementation of Agency-wide community engagement programs and initiatives in Southern Arizona by engaging and collaborating with community and faith-based organizations in service to children, adults and families. This individual will develop new relationships and strengthen existing relationships with community partners in support of the Agency’s goals and mission as the liaison for the Office of Community Engagement to the Southern Arizona region.


-          Communicates and collaborates with members of the community through networking events, coalition meetings, and 1:1 discussions with external organizations

-          Provides resource navigation for community stakeholders

-          Organizes and promotes community engagement events

-          Participates in speaking engagements

-          Maintains a comprehensive tracking system of outreach activities

-          Submits weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly reports on community engagement activities

-          Coordinate and facilitates an Informational Forum semi-annually to provide Department of Economic Security (DES) updates to community stakeholders

-          Leads a team of community partners in producing a major annual community-wide resource and networking event

-          Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Agency initiatives in partnership with community organizations

-          Serves on community coalitions and workgroups such as the Tucson Poverty Project, the Tucson Pima Collaboration to end Homelessness (TPCH) Board, the Cochise Healthy Communities Initiatives, and other collaborative bodies throughout the region

-          Travels extensively in southern Arizona, including the counties of Yuma, Santa Cruz, Cochise, Pima, Graham, and Greenlee, in addition to monthly team meetings in Phoenix

-          Perform other duties appropriate to the assignment

-          Principles, practices, and methodology of human services and how they are addressed in varying organizational structures

-          Effective communication techniques across various cultures

-          Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships

-          Microsoft Office Suites

Ability to:

-          Learn and adhere to the DES programs, resources, policies, and procedures

-          Set priorities, organize, and manage a complex and varied workload

-          Plan, organize, and assemble resources and coordinate projects

-          Gather and compile data and create reports

-          Demonstrate trustworthiness, fairness, openness and follow-through


-          Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Public Relations, or a related field


Requires the possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).


Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.
