JOB SUMMARY:

The Division of Developmental Disability is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Speech and Language Pathologist.  This is a supervisory position that provides clinical guidance to the Augmentative Communication Unit, has extensive knowledge of current AAC technology and must be able to read AAC evaluations and determines if the therapists are accurately documenting medical necessity according to Medicare/Medicaid standards.

JOB DUTIES: 

-          Reviews submitted documentation of new and ongoing services that may require a Notice of Action

-          Utilizes clinical expertise to review reports, records, and data to monitor therapy utilization by members and vendor providers

-          Monitor compliance and Contractual requirements of all qualified vendor providers

-          Participate in meetings for the discussion of Interpreting Division policies and review of therapy documentation  

-          Complete Performance Appraisals, authorize leave and approve Time Cards for staff

-          Review records for accuracy and compliance with recognized therapy documentation standards

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

-          Governmental organizations and Federal and State rules and regulations governing DES/DDD   

 

-          Principles , practice and techniques of Speech Language Pathology

-          Evaluation of an individual’s needs and development of a treatment plan

-          Appropriate data gathering, summarization methods, and report preparation

-          Creation, development, editing of high level business communications(i.e., letters, memos, email and reports

Skill in:

-          Analyzing, problem solving and decision-making  

-          Project planning, coordinating/organizing, and completion

-          Oral and written communication, including graphic presentation of information/data

-          Using software programs, e.g., Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, SharePoint

-          Time Management

Ability to:

-          Review and evaluate program activities analytically and develop effective work plans and methods for improvement

-          Handle highly sensitive and confidential assignments and situations including legal or personnel related matters

-          Adapt, prioritize, multi-task and work independently on projects

-          Coordinate and track projects/assignments from start to completion

-          Motivate and supervise staff

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S):

-          A graduate in Master’s Level Speech-Language Pathology Program.  Prefers active membership in relevant professional organization at state and/or national level.  Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with adults who have Developmental Disabilities and experience in dysphagia (swallowing disorders) and feeding evaluation and treatment highly desirable. 

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

-          Must possess an Arizona Speech-Language Pathology license from State of Arizona or have ability to secure an AZ Speech-Language Pathology license with 6 months from hire date.  Must hold Certificate of Clinical Competence from American Speech-Language and Hearing Association

-          Employee shall have a valid Level One fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statue 41-2758.07 in order to work with children and vulnerable adults

 

-          Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459

-          In-state travel may be required for state business.  Employees who drive on state business must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.) AND have an acceptable driving record for the last 39 months including no DUI, suspensions or revocations and less than 8 points on your license.  If an Out of State Driver License was held within the last 39 months, a copy of your MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) is required PRIOR to driving for State business.  Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
