JOB SUMMARY:

The Division of Developmental Disability is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Speech Therapist.  This position will promote a model of excellence for Speech-Language Therapy in practice and education; follows all applicable federal regulations and maintains active and current general knowledge of the generally acceptable professional standards of Speech-Language practice.

JOB DUTIES: 

-          Provide direct Speech-Language services to members (primarily adult) with developmental disabilities who live in Intermediate Care Facilities and state operated group home settings

-          Review clinical records regarding diagnosis, history, and treatment of the members

-          Maintain professional and accurate documentation regarding Speech-Language services provided to the members

-          Supply information and education to direct care staff, members, and others who work with or attend to the members

-          Conduct comprehensive evaluations and provides a written plan for daily intervention by direct care staff

-          Train and monitor direct care staff to ensure the daily intervention plan is implemented as written

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

-          Identification, evaluation, and treatment of Speech and Language, Swallowing, and Feeding disorders

-          Principles, practices, and techniques of Speech-Language Pathology

-          Techniques used to adapt activities to individual needs

-          Relationship of Speech-Language Pathology to other healthcare professionals and practices

-          Community resources and their relationship to therapeutic principles and techniques

Skill in:

-          Problem solving

-          Decision making

-          Effective oral and written communication

-          Project initiation

-          Use of general office machines and computer technology including electronic medical records, word processing, spreadsheet, data base applications, email, and etc

Ability to:

-          Establish professional relationships and work cooperatively with others

-          Work independently with minimal supervision

-          Provide information regarding member’s needs effectively

-          Multi-task, prioritize, and manage workload

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S):

-          Candidate must be a graduate in a Master’s Level Speech-Language Pathology program

-          Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with adults including geriatrics population who have Developmental Disabilities is preferred

-          Experience in dysphagia (swallowing disorders) and feeding evaluation and treatment highly desirable

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

-          Must possess an Arizona Speech-Language Pathology license from the State of Arizona or have the ability to secure an Arizona Speech-Language Pathology license within six (6) months from hire date

-          Must hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association

-          Employee shall have a valid level one fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-2758.07 in order to work with children and vulnerable adults

-          Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459

-          Have a valid state issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.  Employee is subject to driver’s license record checks and must maintain an acceptable driving record, valid motor vehicle insurance and registration, and must complete any required training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207-12)

-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees

-          Successfully pass background and reference checks.  Employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions
