The Training Officer I position is responsible for providing instructor-led training on employee development throughout the State.  The Training Officer I teaches courses that focus primarily on employees, rather than management.  In addition, assists with other projects as requested by the by the Training Manager.


-          Trains employee development courses and workshops throughout the State.

-          Teaches employee-focused classes.

-          Prepares to present training classes, including learning new materials, attending Train the Trainer workshops, gathering materials, traveling to class sites; setting up training facilities, etc.

-          Perform routine administrative tasks for own work, including, but not limited to, status reports, project plans, correspondence; attend meetings; serve on committees and teams.

-          Attends training and professional development classes/workshops; serve on committees/work-groups.  In-state travel to meetings may be required.


Knowledge of:

-          Computers (Microsoft Office products)

-          Audio visual equipment usage (to include set up, use, breakdown and trouble shooting)

-          Adult Learning Principles

-          Learning Management Systems (data tracking & reporting principles).

Skill in:

-          Training Delivery to include classroom management

-          Interpersonal relations

-          Oral & Written Communication (writing/Composition)

-          Reporting, organization and scheduling/tracking

Ability to:

-          Be Adaptable (maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes to work tasks or work environment)

-          Customer Focus (making customers and their needs a primary focus)

-          Initiative (takes prompt action to accomplish objectives)

-          Manage time (to ensure that work is completed efficiently)

-          Continuous Improvement (originating actions to improve existing conditions and processes; identifying improvement opportunities, generating ideas, and implementing solutions)


-          Bachelor's degree or higher in an applicable subject area such as Human Resources Development, Adult Education, Psychology, English or similar field. 

-          One years' experience training adult learners as a full time trainer responsible for instruction and group/team facilitation.

-          Statewide travel required


-          Have a current, valid state issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employee is subject to driver’s license record checks and must maintain an acceptable driving record, valid motor vehicle insurance and registration, and must complete any required training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees.

-          Successfully pass background and reference checks. Employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
