JOB SUMMARY:

This position will help ensure compliance with Unemployment Insurance Tax by contacting those entities that failed to submit quarterly reports or tax payments. The collector enforces collections by lien and levy actions, installment payment agreements, phone calls, etc. The Collector also recommends review for estimated assessments to satisfy delinquent reporting.

JOB DUTIES: 

-          Review and analyze employer account information to determine the next step to be taken in the collection process

-          Contact employers via phone or in person for reports and/or payment or negotiation of payment, and send various letters to employers for follow up

-          Document results of collection action including phone calls, outgoing/incoming written correspondence, mail returned by the postal service, results of levy actions and lien confirmations, skip trace activities, etc.

-          Review account accuracy for lien filings, verify balance accuracy, and review lien history prior to a new lien request

-          Skip trace assets for levy recommendations, involving researching computer systems for previous payment activity as well as employment

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

-          Two years of experience in collections

-          Knowledge of collection laws; State and Federal statutes, rules and regulations policy governing collection of UI Tax.

-          Skip tracing and collection techniques experience

-          Written and oral communication techniques

-          Ability to utilizing a wide variety of resources available for locating individuals

-          Proficient computer skills

-          Problem solving skills

-          Relate to employers in stressful situations

-          Effective listening

-          Perform rapid and accurate mathematical computations

-          Establish and maintain relationships with other agency employees and the public

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S):

-          Bilingual in English and Spanish to meet the needs of the local population

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

-          Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees

-          Successfully pass background and reference checks. Employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions
